Transit Treks for Older Adults and Individuals with Disabilities
Transit Treks is a free travel training program that helps older adults and individuals with disabilities learn how to confidently and safely use public transportation throughout Northern Virginia.
Our experienced travel trainers provide hands-on instruction using local transit systems, including Metrobus, Metrorail, and other public transportation services. Participants gain practical experience while learning skills such as planning a trip, reading schedules, paying fares, transferring between routes, and traveling independently. Our services are offered in both English and Spanish to better serve our diverse community.
Whether you're new to public transit or simply want to feel more comfortable using it, Transit Treks provides personalized guidance in a supportive and welcoming environment.

What We Offer
- Hands-on travel training
- Small group instruction to local destinations
- Educational presentations and workshops for community organizations
- Short informational presentations (10–15 minutes) for staff, clients, and community groups
- Flexible scheduling, including mornings, evenings, and weekends when available
- Bilingual services available in English and Spanish

Cost
Transit Treks are provided at no cost to participants. Participants are responsible for their public transit fare and any incidentals during the trip.

Transit Treks: Workforce Development
Connecting people to employment through transportation.
Reliable transportation is one of the biggest factors in obtaining and maintaining employment. Transit Treks: Workforce Development helps job seekers develop the confidence and skills to use public transportation as a pathway to work.
Through hands-on travel training, participants learn how to navigate local bus and rail systems while traveling to employment centers, career fairs, workforce development programs, and other destinations that support their employment goals. Our experienced travel trainers provide real-world instruction on trip planning, reading schedules, paying fares, transferring between routes, and traveling safely and independently. Our services are offered in both English and Spanish to better serve our diverse community.
By reducing transportation barriers, participants gain greater access to employment opportunities and the confidence to commute independently throughout Northern Virginia.

Who We Partner With
We collaborate with workforce development organizations, community-based nonprofits, and local employers to provide customized travel training for their participants. Trainings can be tailored to destinations that best meet each organization's needs, including employment hubs, workforce centers, career fairs, and major job locations such as Washington Dulles International Airport and Reston Town Center.
